Fisher-Becker was best known for portraying the jovial Fat Friar, the ghost of Hufflepuff House, in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), as well as Dorium Maldovar, the blue-skinned intergalactic trader in BBC’s Doctor Who. Despite appearing in only three episodes of the sci-fi series, his character became iconic among fans and was later reprised in spin-off projects.
Born on November 25, 1961, in London, Fisher-Becker began his acting career in the late 1980s. He built a diverse portfolio that included television series like Puppy Love, One Foot in the Grave, and The Bill, as well as a role in the Oscar-winning film Les Misérables (2012). Beyond acting, he was also a talented writer, public speaker, and raconteur.
Kim Barry described Fisher-Becker as “kind, gracious, and interested in everyone,” adding that he was a close personal friend for over 15 years. Fans and colleagues alike have remembered him for his humor and warmth. One admirer commented on social media, “A wonderful man who cherished his audiences. Rest in peace.”
