Dil Ka Kya Kasoor is a 1992 Hindi musical melodrama directed by Lawrence Dsouza. The movie has Divya Bharti and debutant Prithvi along with Suresh Oberoi, Sanam and Laxmikant Berde. The songs in the movie were an instant hit.

In the movie, Shalini is the only sister of a rich businessman, Rajesh Saxena, who has a much older character and is more of a father figure to his sister. After her classmate, Arun Kumar performs a song written by her under a pseudonym, Shalini falls in love with him. But Shalini does not tell Arun about this because he doesn’t like her; he thinks Shalini is a spoiled rich girl, as she had behaved as such several times with him and others.

When Rajesh meets Arun without disclosing his identity or purpose, he discovers he is an orphan, from an underprivileged background, and lives in a hostel room because he does not have a place of his own. Rajesh also refuses to help Arun, since he prefers to face the world on his own.

When Rajesh tells Shalini he will arrange her marriage to Arun only if Arun reaches a similar social status to theirs, he says he won’t do it otherwise. She knows that Arun is a good singer because he often sings at college functions and she decides to confess her love to him when he becomes what he deserves, as she doesn’t want to go against her brother or make her love bondage with Arun.

She encourages Madhu to start up a music/stage production company and encourages Arun to become a singer. Seema writes songs for him but wishes to remain anonymous. Through her songs, Arun experiences immense success and wants to meet her in order to thank her. Despite his best efforts, Mr Verma keeps Seema’s identity under wraps, allowing them to only communicate via letters.

It is finally announced by Shalini’s brother that he intends to get her married to (a very successful) Arun, but they soon learn that Arun has married Meena, the principal’s daughter. When the principal, who was Arun’s mentor, suddenly died, leaving his only daughter without any support, the marriage was not the culmination of romance, but rather the logical thing to do.

In the end, Shalini decides to remain unmarried for the rest of her life as a result of the unrequited love and the heartbreak it caused. Due to patches detected in her lungs, her health gradually deteriorates. Arun learns that Seema has been admitted to the hospital and is about to die after Mr. Verma tells him that Seema is Shalini.

She tells her husband about Shalini, and the two go to the hospital together. Arun symbolically accepts Shalini as his wife (with Meena’s encouragement), but Shalini soon passes away. Meena is pregnant and gives birth to a daughter. Arun and Meena name their daughter Seema in memory of Shalini
