The tale of Thakur Raibahadur Harnaam Singh is presented here (Jayant). The film opens with a flashback to a Diwali Night 18 years prior. A banjaran had changed the infant, who is now one year old and belongs to Raibahadur. Raibahadur had a sexual relationship with a banjaran, thus she was threatening him to treat her nicely and marry her. Suddenly, a man in khakhi, a crimson tie, and socks walks into the room. He brings hope to those who are struggling. When Mahi (Hema Malini), a banjaran girl, first encounters him, she develops feelings for Raj Kumar (or Raju) (Raj Kapoor).

In the meantime, Raibahadur abuses Ranjana (Tanuja), a banjaran’s daughter, and makes a pledge to marry her if no one else will. Mahi, who is uneasy, informs the villagers that Raju is the father of her unborn child. He is instructed to marry her by the panchayat, but he refuses. Raibahadur arrives and convinces the locals to strike Raju and Mahi. They start, and then a banjaran enters the scene and tells them the truth.
