In order to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a Bollywood actor, Danish, a mute man from Igatpuri, reaches Mumbai. A guard stops him from entering Film City, but he trespasses nonetheless and meets Akshara Pandey, an assistant director amazed by his acting. In an attempt to get Danish a role in a film, she approaches a director, but the director refuses.

Danish and Akshara traveled to a voice hospital for Danish’s check-up, only to learn his vocal chords were beyond treatment. It was then that Akshara’s father discovered a new technology in Finland – Live Voice Transfer Technology – involving the fitting of a chip inside the patient’s larynx. With the operation successful, they returned to Mumbai looking for someone to be Danish’s voice. Unexpectedly, they encountered an old drunkard, Amitabh Sinha who had once aspired to be an actor but was rejected due to his voice.

Danish approaches the director again, who agrees to launch him this time, but wants him to change his name. After searching for a name, Danish settles on Shamitabh, giving credit to the voice-over artist. Amitabh realizes Danish is only a hit actor because of him and an ego clash begins to arise between them. Danish makes two films and becomes a hit actor.

Danish travels to London to give a speech which he allows Amitabh to voice, yet treats him almost like a menial. On the way back to Mumbai, Amitabh has an altercation with the police while inebriated, and Danish foots the bill. Journalists query if Danish is contrite over the episode and request Amitabh convey his apology. Irked, Amitabh slyly gets him to state there is none, leaving Danish angry and bitter. Both estranged, they take on separate projects: Danish stars as a mute person in a movie that fails; Amitabh dubs for another actor in an also unsuccessful film.

Akshara helps Amitabh and Danish to realise their dependence on each other, leading to them working together in Sorry. Later, they express their fondness for one another before a devastating car crash kills Danish and leaves Amitabh’s larynx damaged, leaving him voiceless. Subsequently, Amitabh visits his friend’s grave clutching the script of Sorry and reciting his lines as if it were possible for him to be alive again.
